It started with PYE in 1939…
During World War 2, PYE designed and manufactured wireless radios for the military.
In 1947 the first PYE commercial radio was used in police cars by the British Home Office.
PYE started to manufacture radios in Australia in 1952.
In 1956, PYE provided VHF communications for the Olympic Games in Melbourne.
...between 1970 and 1996 it was Philips…
The FM900 was probably the world’s first processor controlled two-way radio. It was designed and developed by the Philips design team in Australia.
In 1989 the same design team developed the well-known PRM80, which was manufactured in Australia and distributed worldwide.
...and since 1996 it has been Simoco.
The Simoco brand began when the Philips two-way radio business was acquired by a UK company in 1996.
In Australia, Simoco continued to design radios with engineering and software support and in 2002 TMC Radio was created when a management buyout team acquired the intellectual property of Simoco’s mobile and portable range as Simoco Worldwide sold its Communications business.
The same management buyout team, trading as ComGroup Australia, was formed one year earlier when they acquired the systems and service arm of Simoco Pacific.
In 2010, ComGroup changed ownership when UK based Team Telecom Group added ComGroup and its subsidiaries including TMC Radio to its portfolio of Radio Communications Specialist companies.
